Outfit Post: Silence in motion

My obsession with these shoes will never cease, this is easily marked by the fact that I bought two of them, although one pair died after serving me for 2 years. They are easily one of my top favorite and I rave about them every time I post an outfit post wearing them.

The chiffon overlay dress is a new piece from taobao which make me border on indecency and modesty whenever there’s a gust of wind. Which reminds me, how do you guys like my sad excuse of a GIF? I tried pretty hard to make it loop properly but it seems like I’ll need more practice.

Black Outfit Breakdown

  • Chiffon Dress: Taobao
  • Skirt: Schwing Schwing
  • Camisole: H&M
  • Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell for LF stores
  • Leather Harness: AudraJean on Etsy

It’s always lovely when the weather decides to cooperate for once! I bought this Zara dress when I was still in London, but didn’t have a chance to wear it till recently. I should have worn it sooner because I can hardly squeeze into it now that I’ve gained so much weight from Singaporean food.

I love the lace details on the back! Unfortunately it makes choosing the right underwear a nightmare.

Outfit breakdown

  • Necklace: m)phosis
  • Beret: Murua, Japan.
  • Bag: taobao

Venetia came over and bummed around with us that day. It was an awesome coincidence that she brought her Givenchy-inspired hat along! It’s ridiculous how polished she looks next to me.

When it comes to life, everyone wants the maximum reward with the minimum output. Functional items are starting to make up more and more of my wardrobe as I seek to put together a practical get-up for school without compromising on style or comfort.

The m)phosis wedges I purchased yesterday is amazingly comfortable. Pair it with a maxi dress and throw on a statement necklace, and I am ready for school.

I can’t tell you how excited I am to receive a blazer from Aetienne x Phyle’s new collection titled 3 x 3. Of course, being partial to black, the items featured here are only a part of the collection which has these items in mint green and dusty pink as well.

The capsule collection features a blazer, collar and a skirt and is available for purchase now at http://aetienne.phyle.asia/

I can’t wait to wear the blazer out.

I have an amazing backlog. This picture was taken when Dawn was still in Singapore at the NARS cosmetics launch. NARS was a great host that day, with its launch held at the Art Science Museum. I’ve been a huge fan of NARS since I first came across it in the US.

My apologies for not maintaining the blog well for the past 3 weeks, work has been keeping me really busy. I have newfound admiration for bloggers who are able to balance their blog with their work and this is something I have to work towards. For those that are reading this, thank you for sticking around. :)

It’s not often we head out to the wilderness to have pictures taken. Thanks to Venetia, we travelled really far into some abandoned estate to have some really beautiful pictures taken. This one is my favorite, the rest didn’t really come close so I will save them for another time.

This is my favorite chiffon blouse, it has very dramatic sleeves and a tie collar. I’ll never forget running around the H&M stores in Manhattan just so I could find one in my size.

Another set of photos taken at the really secluded place in Singapore. I was inspired by Alexander Wang’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection (still my favorite collection by far!) and decided to alter it to fit the Singapore weather.

Sometimes, the most impromptu and unplanned events turns out to be the most enjoyable. Had brunch with Venetia on her birthday last week and the light was just lovely at about 4pm which was rare.  The clouds diffused the light from the sun and gave what I called the “fake golden hour” light. It’s also by an amazing stroke of luck that it only decided to rain 20minutes after we got on the road.

For those who are eager for 15th November to arrive like I am, I offer some form of comfort by giving you a first hand look at the H&M showroom in Singapore. This has got to be my favorite designer collaboration with H&M so far. There are just so many items that I love, it’s hard to pick which ones I might end up buying.

The Candy wrapper clutch is definitely my favorite!

For those of us who has been following us closely on Twitter and Facebook, you might already know about Underground Market, a fashion flea market jointly brought to you by 7 fashion bloggers from Singapore. While the rest of the fashion bloggers have already offered their sneak peeks, it’s finally monoxious’ turn!

It is happening THIS Saturday and here’s a peek at the items that I will be selling on behalf of Monoxious (unfortunately Dawn will not be joining us as she still in London).

I am also offering a VERY VERY limited number of this transparent lunch bag for sale. I modelled it after the Jil Sander paper lunch bag except this one is made with vinyl. It is made by Monoxious and features our very own name branded on the bag.

Now remember that the Underground Market Flea is THIS SATURDAY (24th November 2012) from 12pm to 7pm!

Holy cow, it has been (almost) exactly a month since the last update, and probably over 3 since mine. I’m finally back in Singapore for Christmas – looking to spend some quality time with friends and family at home! Hopefully I can use some of this downtime to do up a few posts, but editing pictures on the MacBook Air is harder than I thought. This ‘packing light’ thing really isn’t working out for me.

Here are some pictures taken when I was in Denmark again this October. Denmark is one country I find myself visiting repeatedly, Copenhagen is just such a nice, laid back city with an amazing night life.

I love these boots I got from All Saints. It’s made of buttery lambskin and so awfully comfy!

Howdy everyone! It’s been too long. I even missed out on WordPress v3.5 which allows me to insert all my uploaded photos at once. How backwards am I?

It’s only been 22 days into the New Year before I updated. I hope everyone forgives me. It’s been the norm that the New Year often spells new beginnings, changes and resolutions. Although I am thankful for my metabolism, there has been a decrease these days probably due to a change in job or simply age taking its toll on me (le sigh~) which prompted me to sign up at a local gym in hopes of being healthier. I have thus been transformed into a gym rat. *thunder roars*

Other than that, life has been pretty predictable and routine lately. So what has everyone else been up to?

Hey ho! It’s been a while. 2013 started not too long ago and I haven’t had the chance to even sit down and edit pictures until now! Things are however beginning to quiet down a little and we are commencing boarding on the blogging train shortly.

The year kicked off with a week-long trip to the French Alps – I signed onto a skiing course purely by chance, but now I am kicking myself that I haven’t discovered it sooner!! (Although to be fair Singapore doesn’t offer much opportunities for snowboarding or skiing). I have tried skiing once in Seoul as a kid, but the rush of adrenaline you get from speeding down a slope is a brand-new sensation. I toddled on the green trails for the first couple of days, but have since moved on from blues to reds – I’ll be taking on blacks and hopefully off-piste on my next trip in a couple of weeks! For those people whom my previous sentence makes absolutely no sense to, please scroll on by for more digestible subjects.

Got sick of my boring black hair and decided to do something about it. Reasoned that I will only have the chance to do it now before the responsibilities of adulthood (i.e. taxes, bills, and other yucky things like job searching) catches up with me. Hence the purple tips. I’m only about a couple years late to the ombré trend, but at least now I can feel slightly more at home in Shoreditch.

Breakfast in bed is definitely one of the more decadent ways to start the day…should extend it to include lunch and dinner in bed as well. Which I might have done more times than I probably ought to.

The skull buttons on this Zara shirt matches the McQueen bracelet almost exactly – no one would notice this detail in real life, but I derive the same satisfaction from it as when things fit into your drawers perfectly. All of you must know what I am talking about.

Chamonix-Mont-Blanc

For those who don’t follow me on Instagram…allow me to bleat about skiing again. And for those who do, dealwithit.gif.

Just kidding I love you all. Mostly.

I’ve travelled to a fair amount of places ever since moving here, but Chamonix-Mont-Blanc tops the list by far (followed closely by Amsterdam with Arissa). I discovered a few things there:

  1. I actually enjoy doing a physical activity
  2. Hostels are awesome places to stay in
  3. Saunas are even more awesome places to stay in
  4. I don’t even care that I broke all my fingernails and my toenail is turning black and falling off as I type this, and
  5. I sing really bad Karaoke when I am drunk.

Chamonix is barely a village when compared to London or Paris, but thanks to the awesome company I always have something to do, whether it is getting 2€ toffee vodka shots or waking up at 7am just to be the first people on the slopes. I’m ridiculously excited to be heading there again next week – I’m taking it as a Valentines’ Day present to myself (read: desperate attempt to justify spending)!

The skies are also endlessly blue because you are above the clouds. Skiing through them is a decidedly unpleasant experience: it is damp and I swear they taste funny.

No pictures of myself because fashion kind of takes a back seat when it’s -15ºC outside minus windchill…almost all the pictures of myself feature a dripping nose. Charming. And the thing about ski clothes is that the level of brightness is directly proportional to your skill level: only the best are allowed to carry off otherwise ridiculous colours like neon green and bright orange, mainly because no one can judge you even if you wear a bear costume, if you are that good.

Not too much of an outfit post this time, but there’s only so much you can do with limited space in your room and a 35mm… Excuses aside, I have a few outfit posts lined up and will blog about it once I’m back from the ski resort!! Would anyone like to read about Chamonix and skiing? No? Okay.

Anyway you can tell from the pictures here that my previously purple hair has faded to some greenish-blue concoction. I’m not too sure how to feel about it yet. I forgot how much maintenance dyed hair requires and I don’t have enough ££££ to touch it up every month.

Hairloom

Those of you who have been following us on Twitter and Facebook, would know that we have a new hair sponsor – Hairloom!

After that crazy string of weird hair colours that I had earlier last year, I decided to let my hair fallow for the last half od 2012. Now, I’m ready to take on even crazier colours!

Monoxious Hairloom-1

Monoxious Hairloom-2

Monoxious Hairloom-3

Monoxious Hairloom-4

I have newfound respect for hairstylists that are so dedicated in their line of work. I may be complaining about having to sit in the salon for hours but it’s really Fern and Peter who have been working tirelessly on my hair.

Monoxious Hairloom-5

It was bleached once but the stubborn pigments from my previous hair colour refused to come off (Protip: Don’t dye your hair black to darken it, it makes the colour harder to strip next time. Opt for dark brown instead) so I had to bleach my hair twice.

Monoxious Hairloom-6

I have to say that I enjoyed being blonde for all of 20 minutes while I cam-whored on the photobooth app on my Macbook Air. The bleach did not kill my hair! Look at how smooth it is!

Monoxious Hairloom-7

I discussed with Fern about the colours that I would like and to be REALLY REALLY honest, I had little clue what I wanted prior to entering the salon. I leaned towards having pink hair cause I noticed that my complexion always seemed a little brighter with it.

Being the expert, Fern took my suggestions into account but advised me against some of them due to the condition of my hair and went off to mix the colours of the dye.

Monoxious Hairloom-8

The neon pink  scared me a little when it was applied, I may have resisted running out and shrieking but these people are professionals and celebrities like Rui en (she has her own little corner in Hairloom) have left their hair in the hands of the hairstylists at Hairloom.

Monoxious Hairloom-9

The colour came out GREAT. I couldn’t be happier about the pink. I don’t know if anyone else is as anal about pink as I am but since my skin is of a warm tone, I don’t take to cool pinks very well. This pink it so pretty much what I had envisioned in my head.

As far as hair trends go, the ombre dip-dye thing has been overdone and according to Peter, the trend for 2013 is what he refers to as the 3D layering of hair colours. My hair is pink with a dusty ash purple peeking through.

Monoxious Hairloom-10

Here’s the final outcome!

A giant THANK YOU to Fern and Peter from Hairloom! This is also the part where I give you some good news! There’s a totally awesome deal 1-for-1 hair colouring at Hairloom exclusively for their Facebook fans so you and a friend can both have awesome hair. Check out their post for more details!

Ask me where I would feel most out of place in with this funky hair and I’d probably tell you that it would have to be the gym. Imagine me in my gym gear and running shorts on the elliptical machine. Most people find that sight puzzling and I don’t blame them.

On a side note,it’s been a week and my hair colour is still going strong! I don’t know what kind of hair dye Hairloom uses but the pink and lavender is still pretty vivid.

This weekend outfit was haphazardly shot. I practically dragged Venetia out of H&M while exclaiming that “THERE’S STILL DAYLIGHT.” This pair of Ann Demeulemeester shoes remain one of my most comfortable shoes and I couldn’t be happier to brave Orchard Road on a weekend with them.

  • Blouse: H&M Divided
  • Skirt: H&M
  • Necklace: Lip Service (Japan)
  • Shoes: Ann Demeulemeester
  • Hat: Some random store in Paris

It’s ridiculous how the weather in London teases you – one week it seems like we are finally seeing the arrival of Spring, and the next, it is as if we have moved up to the same latitude as Iceland. If anyone reading this is more in tune with the weather gods than I am, please pass on the message that this PMS-like fluctuation is really not an okay thing to do.

These pictures were taken on one of those rare warmer days – this week has seen a return to more siberian conditions, and it is just impossible to head anywhere without a warm coat.

I’ve found a new love for plummy lips with Burberry’s Lip Velvet in 308! The colour is so vibrant with just a single coat and it applies evenly despite me having the most chapped lips ever.

Minty Strawberry hair

monoxious minty strawberry 2 small

I got my done at Hairloom again! The inspiration was from a friend’s pink phone which had a mint green cover which I thought was really cute looking. A few google searches later, I had the perfect picture to represent the kind of pink and mint green combination I wanted.

When I got to Hairloom, my stylist Peter asked what I would like to do with my hair and I showed him my inspiration picture. He looked at the lavender from my previous dye job with them and said that it still looks nice so he would like to keep it and then Fern (the most AWESOME dye technician I swear) took over and bleached my hair to touch up the roots and to get the residual pink out from the top and began to work her magic.

monoxious minty strawberry 3 small

Fern didn’t even get to see my inspiration picture and she got the freaking shade right. I don’t know how she does this and I was half afraid I might end up looking like some Kpop dude (no offense to those who like them) when I wanted to look like a pastel goth. If you look closely enough, you can spot the blue on the tips. I basically have really awesome looking rainbow hair right now.

monoxious minty strawberry small

I walked out of Hairloom grinning at how my hair is basically the most beautiful thing that people are going to set eyes on that day. To call the hardworking team at Hairloom stylists would be undermining their abilities and talent; they are artists and great at what they do. I have no qualms about recommending them to anyone who would like to colour their hair.

Speaking of which, their 1-for-1 colouring deal is still on until 20 April. Simply go with a friend and you only end up paying the price of the one that is of higher value. Please show them some love!
